Hey squaddies! This month’s recap is a little different, as we wanted to bring you the latest from our new producer! Phil’s been with us for just a short time and hasn’t had a chance to introduce himself yet, but we’re absolutely thrilled to have him aboard. He’s got the experience we need to make Squad the best it can be. So, without further ado, let’s hear from the man himself:
Hey folks, I’m Phil, and I recently joined OWI as Producer on Squad. This is my introduction to you, the players.
I’ve joined OWI at an exciting time – I’ve done several tours of duty on military shooters, and in a crowded genre, I see Squad as something remarkable. Squad’s emphasis on team play, strategy and tactics leap right out at me as the core of what I love about online gaming. The heritage of the game’s development, growing from a popular BF2 mod into something with the potential to be genre-defining, as well as driving forward modding...
PAX East 2019 is in the bag and we’re exhausted! It was truly wonderful to see so many players, new and old, drop by the booth to see what we’ve been creating. Having the opportunity to see people experience the game live is something we’re going to cherish for quite some time.
Since the Recap needs a little more time to cook, part of that experience is now available for you to enjoy. We’ve included a walkthrough of the special PAX layer we prepared to introduce new squaddies into the fold. Check it out; you may see some new features! Note: This footage was from a local server running test code, so there is the occasional bug.
You might be thinking, “That looks suspiciously like a tutorial!” Well, maybe someday, but for now, it’s our starting point for in-game learning experiences. We’re pretty excited by the potential. Stay tuned!
We’d also like to offer a HUGE round of thanks to the community...
Fresh from the hands of the video team, we've got a brand new cut of the What is Squad? video just in time for PAX East! We've come a long way since 2015 and it was high time to show off some of the advancements that have come to the battlefield in that time. Without further adieu:
So, what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
We’re seeking a few volunteers to help us form what we’re (tentatively) calling the Tournament Committee. The purpose of the committee? We’re looking for community feedback and insight to launch our own tournament! Squad is a unique beast, so we want to consult with some unique experts: you.
What makes someone qualified? We are looking for people with an upstanding record in the Squad Community that have ideas on the best way to execute a Squad tournament hosted by Offworld Industries. This hypothetical Best Squaddie Ever should be experienced with organized play, confident in their communication abilities, and willing to cooperate with others to find the best outcome.
Be sure to drop by and check out what’s going on in the world of Squad and Post Scriptum; we think you’ll like what you see. There might even be some other fun stuff in the booth with us, not counting our developers and community volunteers, of course!
You’ll find us in the bottom left corner of the Expo Hall Map, Booth 10126.
Just 'cause February is the shortest month doesn't make it any less busy! We've been hard at work bringing the Unreal Engine 4.21 update to Squad, smashing all the bugs, and polishing up some brand new goodies for you. But wait, there's more! Dig into the preview of Alpha 13 for some explosive action!
Just in case you missed it, back on February 5th, we had Merlin join us on the r/JoinSquad subreddit to answer, well, anything! You can access the thread directly here, or search for your favorite topics by joining our community Discord server and looking into the #ama-answers channel. With some help from the rest of the team, we covered topics ranging from 2019 plans, granular...
